Bedtime Blues

Tonight before getting ready for bed, Mikaela was asked to pick up her toys, as usual.  She was extra tired so this was a little more of a chore than normal.  Her juice cup was still on the floor and we knew she'd use that as a way not to clean up.  So we moved it out of reach.  This started a fit and the following conversation:

"Do you want juice?"
"Uh-uh."
"Then clean up" (handing her one lego to put in her box.)
Tears.

A few seconds later the conversation would repeat.  She would then try to tell us she wanted to eat, thinking that would result in getting the juice without cleaning up a lego.  No such luck.  After probably about 5 minutes of this, Mikaela put one lego in the box and immediately got juice and tons of praise.  She cleaned up a few more and then we did the bed time routine.  Score 1 for Mom & Dad.

Swim Lessons

We signed Mikaela up for Parent & Tot swim lessons for the last two weeks of July.  This class gives toddlers the opportunity to practice swimming skills like water entry, blowing bubbles, kicking, and moving their arms.  Certain days were better than others, but over all she liked it and did well (except for putting her face in the water).

Rough Rider Baseball

Mike's work had Family Night out at the Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, TX to see the Frisco Rough Riders.  They are a minor league team in the area.  The games are a lot of fun.  We decided to take Mikaela along for her first baseball game.

Part of our tickets was an all you can eat place (which Mike enjoyed).  When we first arrived, our seats were in the sun still and it was soooo hot, so we grabbed food and sat at some picnic tables in the shade.  Thankfully, we had arrived early enough that we didn't miss much of the game.  Mikaela enjoyed her chips.

There is a group of people, "The Crew" who entertain the crowds between innings.  They lead dances (like Cotton-Eyed Joe), songs (like "If You're Happy and You Know It"), and gather fans to do various games.  Mike was a participant in "TV Tunes Trivia."  The Crew Member said she was looking for an adult male who knew Sci Fi.  However, when the game was actually played, there were only 2 tunes that were actually Sci Fi shows.

Mike ended up getting 4/5 correct.
1) Battle Star Galactica
2) Everybody Loves Raymond (he didn't get this one)
3) Knight Rider
4) Saved by the Bell (he got this because he's married to me!)
5) The Muppet Show

It was a fun experience and he won a Rough Riders T-shirt.  The game was great, too.  The Rough Riders won, 19 - 4.  We lost count, but at least 11 of those 19 runs, were home runs.  We had a great time & can't wait to go again!

Beating the Heat

Mikaela is enrolled in the Parents & Tots swim class at our city rec center.  Last night after class, we decided to stay a little longer and let her play in the water park area.  She got very cold, but had fun, nonetheless.

Swim Party

We went to a swimming party for some friends of ours whose son was turning 4.  Mikaela had a great time.  Hopefully swim class later in the month will be just as fun for her.

Fourth of July Fun

On July 3rd, we had dinner at the Graemparents and then walked over to the Farmers Branch Historical Park to listen to a concert and watch fireworks.  We've done this for several years, but this is the first time we took Mikaela.  She did as well as could be expected when the fireworks came.  She liked watching them but when the really loud, popping ones came, especially when they came in steady bursts, she wasn't a fan.  Mommy held her close and covered her ears and she did okay.

There was also a petting zoo there so partway through the concert, we took Mikaela there so that she didn't get too bored sitting around listening to music.
